Blue Gem Wind, the joint venture between TotalEnergies, one of the world’s largest energy companies, and Simply Blue Group has welcomed the announcement from the Crown Estate on future Celtic Sea floating wind plans.
Mike Scott, Project Managing Director at Blue Gem Wind, said, “As the developer behind the Celtic Sea’s first floating offshore wind project we welcome the ambition stated by the Crown Estate today. Floating wind will become a key technology in the fight against climate change and the Celtic Sea could play a key role in sustainably delivering green energy to millions of homes. This news builds on the Prime Minister’s recent announcement that the UK Government is providing £160M to UK ports to support floating wind.
These announcements help to give certainty, create a pipeline and unlock wider private sector funding from project developers, the supply chain, and the ports and maritime industry. We look forward to continuing to work with the Crown Estate, the Welsh and UK Government, and other stakeholders to build a floating wind sector that is sustainable for coastal communities, other sea users, and the marine environment.”
